Hi,
GIMP tells me the images of the check figures are 72dpi, thus fine (or
anyway not set, thus fine).
However I noticed windows apps do not open those .tiffs, which is curious :)

Something is definitely wrong here, since Chess.app is an app directly
ported from OPENSTEP. Thus, the images should appear correctly if
GNUstep's implementation is correct. I can't imagine that the
implementation in Cocoa would display the same issue seen here.
