Its probably hard to tell as depends on your environment. There are some bigger changes in old versions such as removal of direct HTTPS support which will require support in your environment (reverse proxies or app load balancers) so you'd at least want to assess whether it's easy to provide that support in your current environment compared to AWS EC2. So assess/plan the changes needed for both, and then decide on sequence before implementing.
