Attached is the third installment of a multipart essay on:
Is GEM Culture the Victim of Academic Baloney? (GEM – Goan, East-Indian,
Mangalorean)
Since this an extensive topic and wehave divided its presentation intofour
parts.

Part I: GEM’s Colonial Culture.Part II: Indo-Portuguese Heritage.Part III:
GEM’s Colonial Education.Part IV: GEM’s Diaspora Culture

We made special efforts to outline the cause-and-effect ofactions undertaken in
the Overseas Territories (OT), so that readers haveadditional understanding of
the geopolitical and strategic rationale intohistorical events.  Many of these
contradict hand-me-down impressionsthat have persisted among Indo-Lusitanos
about our own history. Knowing ourhistory prevents others from distorting and
maligning our story.

We hope you enjoy reading this aspect of colonial history. There is a lot of
‘food for thought.’ Please forward these articles to yourrelatives, friends,
peers, Indian and Iberian chat sites. Sharing history issharing our cultural
heritage; and the work is for us, by us. Thank you forallowing us to share this
with you.

Hopethis essay provides the readers with a framework of their
historicaljourney.  Doing the homework will prepare one for Shashi Tharoor’s
words of wisdom: “If you do not know where you have been, how do you knowwhere
you seek to go? History belongs in the past, but understanding it is theduty of
the present.”

Yours sincerely,
