Thank you for subscribing to our newsletter. For those of you who have recently started following our work, here’s a little about us. We are a library-based organisation with children’s libraries in three locations across Goa. Our biggest library is located in Fontainhas, Mala in Panjim. We have two community libraries in the villages of Aldona and Saligao. Our journey as a library began in 2005 and since then our work has enabled us to travel beyond Goa, through many initiatives and collaborations. Presently, we have six programs that enable us to continue library work with children and adults. These are: In the coming months, we hope to introduce our team members and bring you insights from each of these programs. *Celebrating Dalit History Month in the Library* April is celebrated as *Dalit History Month* in India and internationally. On this occasion we are happy to announce the sale of *A Timeless Calendar : Honouring the Gap*. This calendar is the outcome of a year-long research project titled, Facing Caste : Engaging with the Privileged, undertaken by Sujata Noronha and Beena Choksi with a group of library educators, with a view to learning how to prepare for discussions on caste with children. Choose this calendar as a learning resource for your library community and educational spaces to make visible what our curriculum, textbooks and ‘mainstream’ literature do not. It spotlights indigenous figures and landmark events for memory keeping and to give recognition to the lives and path-breaking struggles of anti-caste activists. You can find a sample look and details to place an order for your copy here <https://bookwormgoa.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3e24e8250913f33ffabd5d536&id=92bcb7e9bd&e=539f1d0c73>. So we were delighted when Bookworm friend and former faculty-mentor of the Library Educators’ Course (LEC), and now long distance member, Jane Sahi shared this extract after reading *Finding Langston* by Lisa Cline Ransome. *“What’s poetry about?” Clem asks.* *“Poetry’s about a lot of things, I guess.”. . .* *“ I like that it feels like……like someone is talking just to you. And that someone else knows what it feels like being…….you. I can’t explain it….. ‘I ( Langston) say, feeling mad I can't say in words what I mean.* *[Clem says] “So the poetry you read is a way of putting all the things you feel inside on the outside.”* *Pp. 97-9* If you would like to sign up to be a long distance member, please click on this link <https://bookwormgoa.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=3e24e8250913f33ffabd5d536&id=3544098ce0&e=539f1d0c73> to know more *Glimpses from March* *Hum Hindustani : A Workshop for Teachers & Librarians by Samina Mishra* Hum Hindustani is a civic education research project led by author and educator Samina Mishra. For the past three years, Samina and her team have been using art to engage with children in India about big ideas related to citizenship, civil rights, and national identity. This project offered insight into the political imagination of diverse Indian children in grades 6-9 at three sites: ShaheenBagh, Rural Ferozpur, and Kitaab Mahal, Mumbai. For this workshop, the topic of discussion was “Freedom to speak, to play, to think - children, Art, and Education.” The Bookworm team was joined by teachers from local schools in Goa and together we explored many ideas and feelings through art and in dialogue with the facilitators, Samina Mishra and Vivek Vellanki. *Inter-Library Visit * Over the last two months, readers across our libraries have been participating in the Reading Challenge, where everyone reads and documents what they read in a shared reading log. To raise the stakes and bring in more excitement, we invited children from the Vinay & Jean Kalgutkar Community Centre, Saligao to visit the Bookworm Library at Mala.
