In *Across Continents: Writing Goans, Making Worlds* <https://www.himalmag.com/r/08755ae4?m=74f012d9-e25a-4ee4-a2de-76c9b31e71ee> (University of Michigan Press, August 2026), R Benedito Ferrão examines how Goan writers have represented lives shaped by Portuguese and British colonialism. Reading novels by Salman Rushdie, M G Vassanji, Roger King and Margaret Mascarenhas, Ferrão follows Goan characters across Asia, Africa, Europe and North America, asking how migration and colonial histories have shaped ideas of citizenship, nationality and belonging. By focusing on figures often left at the margins, the book offers a way of thinking about postcolonial identity beyond the usual national boundaries.
