With a working hypothesis you could begin contacting the people and come in dialogue with them, nothing your conversation, and making observations about the village - the whole scenario, to begin with. And more. If you have definitive perspectives on research there I could probably help, because I did field work there for Konkani language decades ago. Things will have changed considerably.
