The carry over [on page 10] of the front page article in the Navhind Times
of Sunday 05 March, 2006, quotes DIG Ujjwal Mishra thus " I have confirmed
this report appearing in some sections of the press with the South Goa SP,
Mr. Shekar Prabhudessai, and other police officers posted over there." The
DIG also denied the report on weapons being found with Muslim community
members.'

However, just below the banner headline "CISF troopers dispatched to
Sanvordem, says DGP" on page 1 there is a photograph, credidted to one
Aditya Anand, with the caption " An unknown revolver lying on the street
near the railway station." One would obviously presume that it refers to the
Sanvordem-Curchorem railway station. The photo is NOT of a REVOLVER which
necessarily needs to have a 'revolving' bullet magazine like one would see
in a Wild West film. The phot is of a hand gun with a 'magazine clip'. It
could be a machine pistol or a Light machine gun like a AK-47, not a
revolver. It is NOT a SERVICE PISTOL like the ones snatched from two
police officers. It looks more like a half-burnt toy machine gun to me.
The newspaper needs to verify the authenticity of the photograph. It also
needs to explain why it printed the photo on the front page, when the text
denies the inflow of weapons. Does the newspaper want to support rumour
mongering? Does it not have a responsibility to the society? Or is the
newspaper, whose owner attended a Congress Workers rally recently, want to
support the other side of the political spectrum? these questions beg for
answers.
