- the TRUE story

Since all were wondering as to what went wrong with my Goa trip, here’s what
transpired.

1) - The place where we stayed was a place called “Sea Pearl” in Calangute
beach. The home was like 10 steps away from the beach, and that was the irony.
The mornings were warm, the afternoons a lil hot, the evenings hotter
(including power trips and no power) and the nights, the HOTTEST! Never
realised that the damn sea releases the heat at night and really screws your
head off! No generator backup, no stabiliser for power..

To top it all, all we saw of the owner was the time we arrived and the time we
exited. For a second, I wondered, that did he even exist at all there. Not even
a damn drop of water was supplied till we asked for it! Sure tells a lot about
the hospitality there.

2) - Every one out there seems to be in a mood to fleece you. Take a damn
rickshaw to trip out for a 5 km road and be ready to shell out 150 bucks to a
minimum. Wonder do they think that all those who come to visit Goa live in Gold
houses and eat in diamond plates.

3) - Almost all the restaurants (exceptions – a nice lil place in Old Goa and
Cactus restaurant, opp Lawande supermarket) are off to not only rip you off but
also to test your patience.

When a trip down to Titos, a happening place in Goa was met with a Good Friday
closure, we headed down to Nisha, a restaurant nearby. The damn waiter took 40
mins to even look at us, though he was happily chilling a nearby firang’s beer
by adding in more ice! And when the damn order was taken, the food arrived
after an hour almost.

And oh… this was not all. The record was broken by the first shack we visited
in Calangute beach. They took 1 hour 45 mins to get the food. To top it, the
ice tea that was served came with a FREE cockroach!! We were not charged for
the replacements though!

4) - Decent looking wine shops in Goa sell liquor at 5 times the price
normally available.

5) - Everything sells there. So no one is even bothered to ask you for water,
or even serve you a simple glass of water till you have enough moolah to shell
out!!

Moral of the story:

Do not go to Goa till…

a) You have good company
b) You know locals there
c) You can drive a bike
d) It is off season
e) Your have a sponsored trip where all your expenses are taken care of
f) You have enough of patience

Oh ya.. the Silver Ray of hope are the buses there. They are absolutely
WONDERFUL and are available point to point. Infact, once we were at Dona Paula
and waved out to the bus from almost a kilometre away. The sweet fellow waited
till we managed to reach there and took off with us. Trust me, hadn’t it been
for the buses, we would have been spending the day whole, dying in the damn
grave yard, aptly called “Sea Pearl” (get clammed!!!!)

Disclaimer: I am sure Goa is a wonderful place to stay, but for the locals
only. If you are an outsider, ready to be shred to bits of money, everywhere
you go.
