LEAP OF JOY FESTIVAL WITNESSES LARGE CROWD 23\6\08
The spectacular backdrop of the pomburpa spring, played host to
the first ever LEAP OF JOY festival on Sunday 22/06 organized by villagers of
pomburpa with the support of the GTDC. A sizeable crowd joined in the SAN JOAO
festivities wearing floral crowns ,colorful clothing's , and in fancy dress.
Young and old performed mandos, western ,kunbi, portuguese dances. Villagers
distributed sannas,jackfruits,mangoes,pineapples and shared goan rice,
curry.pez,dried fish,pickle,papad,and local sweets etc.
Father Santana Carvalho, the Parish Priest of Pomburpa spoke
of his joy with the spontaneous involvement of his villagers and appealed to
them to make this an annual event. He also called upon the authorities to safe
guard this medicinal spring for future generations.
Mario fernandes the event coordinator, expressed his
happiness that the villagers young and old that were spotted at the earlier
held SONS OF THE SOIL PROJECT had the chance to showcase their talent on the
bigger stage.The Pomburpa Spring Band which was formed during the camp regaled
the audience with a vareity of songs ranging from Portuguse,Hindi,Konkani and
English music.He also added, that this being an alcoholic free event families
with young children attended in large numbers. We had tremendous feed back from
the villagers from the surrounding area and support.Senior konkani artist Joe
Rose from neigbouring Olaulim sang his hits from the past and responded to an
appeal from NRI Mario fernandes ,that he will wholeheartedly support the
forming of a Konkani Tiatr Academy in Pomburpa .He was encouraged to see
Little Jlynna from BRITONA DRAMATIC ACADEMY singing her award winning song,
TOURIST.She recently won the best child artist
award at the Konkani film festival for her performance in the film Ordem
Chador.
