Dear Sebastiao-bab, For a person who can remember the day, date and venue when Dalgado Konkani Akademi was formed, it is rather surprising that you confuse my reference to Fr.Freddy da Costa as DKA's founder-President and try to suggest that I implied his Goa Konkani Akademi ad hoc post. I know lots of things about Fr. Freddy, some of which have been subject matter of court proceedings and advertisements in the very newspaper that Tomazinho's column appeared in and I am accused of calumny of.
"Ultimately, Truth alone shall prevail! Sebastian Borges " Satyameva Jayate. You have written that correctly. I have no where denied that you are a pensioner who has earlier served as a lecturer of Geology at Chowgule College and somehow remain fascinated with the prefix "Prof" that you did not earn or get. So admit that truth and delete the dishonest prefix to your name as the first step! Your geology has no relevance to your social status today, your writing in GULAB is perhaps the only thing people at large know about you. I do not know who reads the raddi like "Dalgadocho Sondesh" [or should that have been "Sondex" as per your own orthography for the GKA along with Tomazinho and others?]or if its "print run" exceeds a hundred copies. When quoting a 'Research Paper', one would expect a "Professor" to quote the Journal, Volume, issue, date and page. Perhaps, memory suddenly failed you. Take your time. I am still waiting for you to substantiate your imputation that Fr. Pratap Naik had "pirated" the MAHABAROT by Xri Lourdinho A. Rodrigues [original in Roman script, 1987 pp146] ...or to at least state it in writing with your signature. The Truth will take of the rest ...specially your canards. No one has "milked" Goencho Ulo. Almost everyone linked to it rendered voluntary service. Some have even invested their time and money in it. Because of that effort, we now have a number of magazines in Konkani written and published by persons who are proud of Konkani written in a familiar dialect and in the Roman script. You have a right to believe in ...and promote ...the use of Devanagri script for Konkani. There is nothing wrong in that. It is when you continue to write in Roman script and promote the Devanagri script that there is a dichotomy between the script and the truth. Like you, it sucks. The pity is there is no milk in the dry paps and soon the GKA tap may also run dry for the script parasites. that is the one thing that worries the lobby that has already been shown the door in Kerala and Karnataka. It is Goa today and Maharashtra is next. In the Cyberspace, there is very little use for the Devanagri. Only Roman script can unite the Konknnis in the Global Village of tomorrow. It may even happen in your own life time. God was kind to Fr. Moreno de Souza SJ and took him away before the day of reckoning. May you and Fr. Mousinho de Athaide and your publisher, Fausto da Costa, live to see the new dawn of Konkani ...with dismay or change of heart. To each, his choice. At least in your old age, be a man and write directly instead of in innuendos that protect the lie and present it as the possible truth. Ditto for Fausto. Why the "Xent kadd ani ambear mar..." type of attitude. The days of windfalls are over. As you sow, so shall you reap now. Satyameva Jayate. Mog asundi. One can only conclude that the present movement was started by Tomazinho to hide his own sins of omission. And he has certainly profited from it. The above appeared as a Letter to the Editor in GT dated 05/09, but in a rather truncated form. An idiot of a calumnist, who writes exclusively for English readership, thought that I got the above dates right because I write in GULAB magazine whose founder editor, the late Fr. Freddy J. Da Costa was the President of the ad hoc Executive Committee of GKA. Isn’t this preposterous? How can one get correct dates today from a person who expired four years ago? In fact, I got my correct dates from the very reverend whose sidekick the calumnist is. But then, can one expect mercenary writers to check their facts before they shoot them off? I practise the precepts of not only Monsignor Dalgado but also those of Dr. Pratap Naik who wrote as follows in two of his RESEARCH PAPERS (not popular articles, mind you): “(1) This is not the time for standardization. Konkani people are dispersed in several locations, scripts and religions. This is the time to use a single script, to understand each other, to dialogue, to learn from each other. (3) We need a standard dialect for teaching in schools and colleges, for official correspondence, for using a formal language in public gatherings, etc. The only question that remains is, which dialect is to considered standard. These research papers were published as late as in 2003, the very year in which he and Tomazinho Cardozo started the script controversy! I read Konkani in four scripts and write in two: in Roman script on “Gulab” and in Devanagari on “Sunaparant,” “ Zag” and “Dalgadacho Sondesh”. The calumnist knows this fact, yet calumniates. He also knows very well that I do not earn my bread from writing in Konkani; yet he nauseatingly harps about defecating in the plate I eat from. Does one need any further proof that he has taken leave of his senses? Perhaps he thinks “Gulab” is another “Goencho Ulo” which he milked dry while the going was good.
