About Goan families migrating to London (UK)

It seems everybody wants to settle in the UK.
Husband in Govt Job and wife a head nurse in GMC,
 they too dream of
leaving Goa soon along with the school./college going children

For some of us, it has just become a sort of a fashion/trend or
rather a competition. ‘If they can go, we can go too?’
Yet, some may say
‘we go because we want to give our children the best’
But we hardly bother to see what our grown up children really want.
Having left with no choice, children, sometimes,
join us against their wishes.

Some of the common migration related issues are very well
highlighted by Mr Augie D’Melo in his tiatr ‘IXOB’
(Britona Dramatic Academy) staged on the last day of the
35th Tiatr Competiion  on 7th Oct. 2009 at Kala Academy, Goa.

A well to do parents leaves Goa for UK with their grown up
daughter and the son.
Once in the UK (London) and as per the country’s culture etc,
the wife made at least 5 boyfriends. Everywhere the mother goes,
she took her teenage daughter too. Over a period of 7 years,
the daughter too followed in her mother’s footsteps.

The younger teenage brother was never happy.
His parents have no time to give him as they both busy after ‘Pounds’
In the end, the boy ends his life settling the ‘IXOB’ once for all.

Father role played by Johny D’Silva and
the mother was Pedrinha D’ Mello.
Joana Braganza as Grand Mother, Sonia Rodrigues as the daughter,
Welroy Fernandes as the ill-fated son.

Tushar Mandrekar played well as the girl’s boyfriend in Goa.
Who took to drinking after she left Goa

Godreena D’ Melo as London Goan and Rodney D’Souza
as pimp also did well.

Swapnil Mandrekar provided the entertainment,
who played the role of a typical ‘effeminate Gay’
who walked &  talked like a girl but in the end,
it was revealed that he was not a gay after all as he
announced his marriage to a girl who works in his fashion boutique.
His acting was almost natural.

A full size London Bridge ‘Poddo’ was the special attraction.

There were about 14 songs.
Sung by D’ Silva Sisters, Camilo Sisters, , Mathew, Janice,
Jlynna, Hamlin, Johny, Alsha-Joslyn-Ruella-Macha, baby Avira.

Lenzie Camilo, H Britton’s niece paid a fitting tribute to
her uncle which was well received by the audience.

T Britton and his grand daughter Francia (the youngest one)
also sang well.

Comedy duo sung by Hermizil and Rozalina
was too good and deserves full marks.

Band: Agnelo Dias

The tiatr was houseful about 36 hours before the show.
