The building in the picture is the present HEADQUARTERS 2 SIGNAL TRAINING CENTER The history of this building is very interesting as it was the original Clube Vasco da Gama built around the year 1928. The land belonged to the Government and was given on long lease to the Club for the construction of a building. At that time the club members consisted exclusively of Portuguese Military Officers and elite goans so the government gave all the facilities for the construction. In fact the Governor himself was a member of the Club. Unfortunately soon after the building was completed, the Club had heavy debts and had no alternative but to sell the same to the Portuguese Government. And subsequently it was converted into Quartel General of portuguese army On the left side across the road there was a Tennis court for the Club members and this plot still belongs to CCP but today is used as a garage for military men. The present Clube Vasco da Gama is located in the 1st Floor of Souza Towers opposite Municipal Gardens and last year it completed 100 years of its existence, probably it is the oldest social Club in Goa. One can see from outside from the road that there are two beautiful sideway (semi-circular) stair cases to reach the fist floor at the entrance hall. Sadly, there are always armed military guards outside the entrance day and night walking up and down (left & right front of the building) i took this pic while they look other way (just in case) Two more pic provided see link within http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk28/4951780175/ also, it has links to news paper reports about the Army decision/request to close two side roads for safety reason but CCP told them to shift their installations elsewhere or to Bambolim instead. joego...@yahoo.co.uk for Goa & NRI related info... http://in.groups.yahoo.com/group/GOAN-NRI/ For Goan Video Clips http://youtube.com/joeukgoa In Goa, Dial 1 0 8 For Hospital, Police, Fire etc
