The front entrance facing the Mandovi river reopened.
Since the seat of power was shifted to Porvorim five months
ago, the condition of the pre-Portuguese building had
gone quite bad. The shifting to the Adil Shah Palace
was necessitated as ministers were not allowed to occupy
ministers' chambers in the new Assembly complex. A
week ago, when some ministers had started functioning
from there, the securitymen guarding the building were
sent to inform the ministers to vacate the chambers. (H)

          hearings to end today)
o Chokleti khayat, bhalayki sudarat (Eat chocolates
          and improve your health)

o THIS GOVERNMENT IS A SHAM: Put the assembly in suspended animation
and conduct by-polls. The state of Goa is in the grip of
suffering for having given birth to a premature government.
Like a weak premature baby, the Rane-led Goa government is
surviving by the day. Each new sunrise is a bonus. Forget planning
for the next two years. Even planning for the next 24 hours has
become an obstacle. (FRONTPAGED editorial in Gomantak Times)

o IF WE END up creating small states like Goa with 40MLAs, they
would also be plagued by the same political uncertainity.
The new state (planned elsewhere0 should be such that its
assembly should have at least 100 MLAs. Then, one could look
forward to some semblance of political stability. (Avinash Kolhe, GT)

Goan Overseas Association NSW * 12 February, 2005

We all know that there have been incredible advancements in
technology that have evolved over the past decade or so.
Consequently, it is sometimes difficult not to get caught up in this
wave of electronics and forget the human element. So over the next
two months, the G.O.A. will focus on community and welfare
        initiatives.

This month we have organised a Seniors Day for upto 20 of our Senior
Members. Our Members will be chaperoned on a bus trip to The Entrance on the
Central Coast an hour`s drive from Sydney. This is a not-to-be-missed
opportunity for our Seniors to enjoy each other`s company in a relaxed
atmosphere, play some cards and even feed the pelicans at Memorial Park.
Light meals will be served and the day`s outing will be completely free to
our Senior Members. So please get in touch with our General Secretary,
Caroline Romeo.

We have also been successful in obtaining 10 free tickets to the NSW
Premier`s Seniors Concert to be held on Tuesday, 15th Mar 2005 at the Sydney
Entertainment Centre. It is indeed gratifying that G.O.A. NSW Inc. is
getting some recognition as an Association. To qualify for one of these
tickets, you must be available to attend, you must be a Senior/Pensioner
Member and you must call Caroline on or after Monday 18th Feb to reserve a
ticket.

"Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming
of it" - Helen Keller. Yes, the Asian Tsunami is behind us and now the world
is into the rebuilding stage. We at G.O.A. NSW are certainly proud to have
been able to do our little bit. The generosity of our Members has yielded
$1705. We expect that the Trustees of G.O.A. NSW will approve a similar
donation from the Association. We expect to finalise this by the end of Feb
2005. You can find out more by clicking here

G.O.A. NSW has co-partnered SEVA (South Asian Entrepreneurial Venture
Association) through a G.O.A. member to assist in its initiative to
introduce Indian meals within the meals-on-wheels network.

In March we will be proceeding with the Creative Writing Workshop. This is a
community initiative of the G.O.A. and the format is targeted at assisting
Members to improve their business writing skills. We only have 5 seats
available. If you are interested please contact us by email at

Goans, where ever you are, let us unite.

Best Regards VICTOR NAZARETH President.
