More on politics. And a sad story from the dam-oustees at Selaulim who don't have enough water for themselves after sacrificing their village to ensure a (costly and inefficient) water supply system for a large part of Goa. CASTE POLITICS SET TO CAST ITS SPELL IN MARGAO: Mission Margao is turning into a battle to pocket the crucial Bhandari Samaj (intermediate caste) votes across Margao. Ravi Naik and Subhash Shirodkar are working for the Congress with Sripad Naik for the BJP. There are 5000 Bhandari voters in Margao, many having their roots in villages around Ponda, including Shiroda, Dhurbat and Ponda town. Digambar Kamat, now in the Congress, might be worried over attempts to consolidate the Bhandari vote bank spread across Calconda- Chinchal towards the BJP, in the backdrop of the temple construction at Calconda. On the other hand, the BJP cannot even dream of a victory sans the Bhandari votes. The BJP is aware that a Saraswat-Bhandari combination can work wonders for the party.
