(H) ----------------------------------------------------------------- GNBedit ----------------------------------------------------------------- SHAME ON you, politicians. The latest politicking to grab power at the councils -- as exemplified by Margao -- brings glory to none. Firstly, it only shows that the BJP knows too well how to fulfil its greed by satiating ambition and fuelling treachery. (Didn't it come to power at the state level that way in 1999?) Secondly, the Congress clearly has no hold over its flock, and is a divided lot. Thirdly, and more importantly, party ideologies and labels are just skins and excuses through which our ambitious men (and women) in politics realise their dreams. We also see, fourthly, that the so-called national parties are blocking space and depriving a more genuine local leadership from emerging. But is that at all possible when selfish, opportunism and a lack of any political consistency has come to rule the day in our state? After all, Goa is a house divided, and Goan distrusts fellow Goan. We lack a vision of what future we would like to build, allowing just about anyone to come along and take us for a jolly ride. And as long as the common voter and opinion makers aren't willing to speak up, Goa probably deserves the amazingly inferior quality of 'statesmen' and 'cityfathers' that it throws up. Already, the spindoctors are in action to justify the unjustifiable. ----------------------------------------------------------------- DEATHS ----------------------------------------------------------------- BAHRAIN: Antonio Dos Anjos Pinto (Tony) expired on Oct 19.
