PARRIKAR'S AIDE ASSAULTED: Poll related group clashes in the trouble-prone 
Ponda taluka surfaced yet again, when Mayuresh Khaunte, a special assistant 
to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, was allegedly attacked by a group of 
Congress workers in Ponda city on Friday night, (in connection with the 
fixing of poll banners and posters). Chief Minister Parrikar flayed the 
Congress party for attacking the BJP workers and alleged that the attack on 
his workers was carried out by the son of Ravi Naik and a councilor of 
Ponda. (H)

CEO URGED TO LIFT BAN ON CASSETTES: A group of prominent citizens has urged 
the Chief Electoral Officer that the instructions issued by him to the 
police to seize cassettes of the film "Hey Ram" and magazine "Communalism 
Combat" on Gujarat carnage, be immediately withdrawn, as they are not only 
biased to a political ideology but also against the fundamental rights of 
freedom of speech and expression. (H)

MGP INTRODUCED DAYANAND SCHEME: The MGP candidate for Bicholim, Pandurang 
Raut, has insisted that the Dayanand Social Security Scheme, which is being 
propagated by the BJP, was in fact being practiced by the MGP during 
Bandodkar's time. Raut accused the BJP of distributing DSSS forms to voters 
in a bid to lure them to vote for the BJP. (H)

FORGERY UNEARTHED: A scam in which five persons formed a co-operative 
housing society (in Tivim-Cansa) and obtained a loan of about Rs.1.5 crore 
after forging signatures, has come to light after the victims were 
intimated for recovery of arrears by the assistant registrar of
