GOACOM NEWS CLIPPINGS 28 May 2002 HSSC RESULTS TODAY: The results of HSSC examinations conducted by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Alto Betim, will be declared at the office of the Directorate of Education, Panaji, at 11 am today. The results will also be available on the internet at the same timing. A total of 11,451 students had appeared for the examinations held in March. (GT)
CAMPAIGNING ENDS TODAY: Campaigning for the assembly elections which reached a feverish last stage pitch during the last few days, will come to a halt today at 5 pm. All parties tried to round up their campaign with a series of meetings in constituencies important to them as also use of loud speakers to reach voters in every nook and corner of the State. BJP, NCP and Congress Party had requisitioned the services of their veteran leaders, Union ministers, former ministers and some chief ministers of neighbouring states to add luster and punch to their campaign. (GT) ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS: Despite the short time they got for campaigning, the BJP and the Congress Party have built up a good momentum in North Goa in their attempt to improve their tally. The campaigning ends in South Goa with quite a bit of suspense about the outcome of the May 30 elections. Candidates of all parties found the popular mood not very enthusiastic and as a result they had to use all the weapons in their baskets to attract them. (NT) SPORTS CITY IN SANTA CRUZ OPPOSED: Expressing their opinion at a "Know Your Candidate" meeting organised by the Voters Council at Santa Cruz on Sunday, six of the 11 candidates in the fray in the Santa Cruz constituency opposed the setting up of the sports city in its present location in the khazan land. (GT) D'SATISH TO PREDICT ELECTION RESULTS: The president of the Goan Magicians Guild, Magician D'Satish, and its secretary Magician Dandrake, will predict the results of the Assembly Elections to be held on 30 May. The prediction will be done today and sealed in front of the media and kept in the safe custody of a Bank. (GT) DEMOCRACY OR HYPOCRISY: "I do not know if it is a sheer coincidence or deliberate decision of Election Commission to fix up the polls on the 15th anniversary of Goa's Statehood Day. Unfortunately, there is a general tendency in the people to ignore the importance of things, which are presented to them on a platter. No surprise, there are practically no planned celebrations on the fateful day. (NT) BAILANCHO SAAD SCREENS "HEY RAM": Bailancho Saad on Monday screened the controversial "banned" film "Hey Ram" in Panjim yesterday. According to a press release issued by Saad, the film has been allegedly proscribed by the State's Chief Electoral Officer Arvind Ray. The film was screened after it became clear that no written order, instructions or gazette notification has been issued by the Chief Electoral Officer prohibiting the screening of the film. (H) POMPOUS GOVT SERVANT: An over zealous Weights and Measures inspector confiscated a weighing scale of Robert Colaco, a prominent businessman from Tivim, for failing to verify and stamp the machine on time. Colaco, who is closely associated with the Nationalist Congress Party, had told the officer that he did not posses the certificate as on two occasions when he visited the Department's office in Mapusa, either the office was closed or the inspector was not in his place.
