BJP MLAs TO UNDERGO THREE-DAY TRAINING COURSE
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will conduct a three-day training
course for its MLAs next month to acquaint them with their tasks as
legislators vis-à-vis the people’s expectations, and government
procedures, while the party’s state level meet is scheduled to be
held on 15 June.

This was announced by BJP Goa State President Laxmikant
Parsekar at a press conference held here yesterday.

He said a training session for the party’s village, district and state
level activists and new members will also be held to familiarize
them with the Party’s ideology, agenda and programme. Reviewing
the party’s performance in the recently held assembly elections,
Parsekar said it was a mandate in favour of the BJP though the
party did not get an absolute majority in the 40-member House.

Elaborating further, Parsekar said that the Goan electorate had voted
for stability and good governance which were the key slogans of the BJP.
The constructive votes of the people resulted into increase of BJP MLAS
from 10 in the 1999 election to 17 presently he said.

Percentage wise there is an increase by 13 per cent votes in favour of
BJP this time, he stated. In terms of number of MLAs, the increase is 70
percent, Parsekar informed.

Parsekar admitted that his party fell short in achieving the magic figure
of ‘21’, MLAs, while saying that the party ‘perhaps went wrong somewhere’.
Replying to a query, Parsekar said he would neither accept a chairmanship
of any corporation or a ministerial berth for a period of one year, till
the time
he continues as the state president he not accepting any posts, the
development work of Mandrem would be completed. “It is a wrong
conception that a constituency develops only when a MLA gets a car with
the red beacon light”, he said.

Parsekar took pride in stating that 16 of the 17 BJP MLAs who were elected
are cadre of the party.
