GOACOM NEWS CLIPPINGS 02 July 2002 GOA MAY PULL OUT OF TILLARI: The State government is faced with the question as to whether to continue investing in the Tillari Irrigation Project or to divert the funds to other projects with tourism potential which is the backbone of Goan economy. Speaking to reporters yesterday, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar stressed that the need to re-think over the Tillari project was felt since it will ultimately turn out to be a white elephant. The government has already contributed Rs.280 crore towards the project which was estimated to cost Rs.800 crore in the year 1988-89. (GT)

Taleigao MLA Atanasio alias Babush Monserrate, who is now the minister for Town and Country Planning, had promised in his election manifesto that Taleigao would be reverted to village panchayat status. Asked whether this can be done, the chief minister said "ultimately, it has to be approved from the legal point of view". The police recovered some bones and the skull besides a gunny bag containing nails and trimmed hair.
