GOVERNMENT HAS PREPARED SCHEME TO ELIMINATE STRAY ANIMAL MENACE: AG Advocate General Atmaram Nadkarni today (Aug 27) told the Panaji Bench of the Bombay High Court that Goa Government had prepared a scheme for elimination of the stray animal menace and that the entire details would be submitted to the High Court by an Affidavit.
The Bench comprising of Justice S. Radhakrishnan and Justice PV Hardas then adjourned till Monday the final hearing on the Public Interest Litigation filed by the Convenor of "People for Elimination of Stray Troubles" (P.E.S.T), regarding the Stray Animal Menace on the roads and public places. Appearing on behalf of the petitioner Adv. Aires Rodrigues stated that the population of stray dogs/cattle in Goa has reached alarming dangerous proportions and the inaction on the part of the Government is a matter of concern. Adv. Norma Alvares appearing for the Animal welfare groups submitted that the situation was under control at places covered by the current scheme. The Bench told the Advocate General that the proposed Government scheme should cover entire State. The Petitioner has in the petition urged the Court to order and direct the Government to discharge their obligatory responsibilities under the respective Acts for the confinement or elimination of stray dogs/cattle and for preventing and checking the spread of dangerous diseases and accidents.
