PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar will launch a waste management programme for empty milk packets being implemented by Goa State Co-operative Milk producers' Union Limited at Curti, Ponda at 10am on 3rd September. The board of directors recently met and resolved to initiate measures to control the problem of empty milk packets strewn all over the State. As oer the programme, the consumers will have to store 100 empty packets and in exchange, will be entitled for one free milk packet at any milk booth in the State. Presently, since the Goa Milk Union is marketing nearly 90,000 litres of milk on a daily basis, around one lakh empty packets will be received daily by the Goa Diary which will account for 1000 packets valued at Rs. 7837 daily. This annual expenditure on this programme is expected to incur a cost of Rs.28,60,505.
