NO FORCIBLE INCLUSION: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar yesterday reiterated 
the government's assurance that no area will be "forcibly" included in the 
Panaji Corporation at the time of implementing the bill and accused 
Opposition leaders of "misguiding" the people and bringing them out on the 
streets. (H)

GOVT ON THE WRONG TRACK: "The time is just not ripe to include the village 
panchayat (Santa Cruz) into the Corporation. The government should have 
gone for a long-term project. It should have been elevated to a 
municipality, functioning as such for the next 10 years, before its

SATELLITE TOWNS: Instead of choking villages, authorities should promote 
the growth of satellite towns. For example, Porvorim plateau could be 
developed as a satellite town. Even villages could be encouraged to develop

KHALAP MISUSED BANK: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar yesterday alleged that 
former chairman Ramakant Khalap used the Mapusa Urban Co-operative Bank of 
Goa Limited for his political and manipulative activities and requested him 
not to comment on its health. (GT)

SERULA GAUNKARS FLAY GOVT: The government came in for severe criticism at 
an extra-ordinary general body meeting held yesterday at the office of the 
Comunidade of SerulaAlto Porvorimfor allowing the managing committee of 
Serula Comunidade to rule despite its term expiring on February 28, 2001. (H)

POLITICAL PRESSURE: The Joint commissioner of Police (Training) of the 
Delhi Police, Ms Kiran Bedi, said in Panaji on Saturday that policing today 
is a very complex task. It has too many pressures and lot of expectations. 
Ms Bedi told The Navhind Times that the policemen today are very 
over-worked, there is no shift system in the police. Therefore, only those 
people stay in the job who have no option, and many people stick to the job 
as it provides security. (NT)

COMPUTER SUBJECTS CONFUSE: The Goa Schools Managements Association, Mapusa, 
stated that the lack of co-ordination between the Directorate of Education 
and the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has created 
confusion regarding teaching of the computer subjects for students of VIIth 
to Xth standard. (GT)

Ramchandra Bharne at Porvorim was burgled yesterday. (H)

ALTO-BETIM PARISHIONERS IRKED: Parishioners of Alto-Betim, Bardez, are up 
in arms over a decree passed by the Archbishop to transfer the Holy Cross 
Chapel to the jurisdiction of Penha de Franca. (GT)

SIOLIM RESIDENT ASSURED: The Agriculture Minister, Dayanand Mandrekar, 
inaugurated a 63-KVA transformer near Holy Cross Convent in Sodiem. The 
minister assured the villagers that their demand for development of road 
would soon become a reality. However, he sought the co-operation of the 
people particularly landlord in the process of widening works of the roads. (H)

CUT DOWN GOVT HOLIDAYS: Holidays at the drop of a hat may soon become a 
thing of the past for government employees if the second National Labour 
Commission has its way. "We have the maximum number of holidays," the panel 
said in its report. (PTI report in Herald)
