DIVO Konkani Weekly Declares Prestigious Literary Award Of Rs. 50,000 For The Year 2002 This years Prestigious ‘Divo Sahitya Puraskar 2002’, a Rs. 50,000 Cash Award Goes to two Konkani eminent figures one each from Mumbai and Mangalore. They are Mr. P. D’Souza from Mumbai and Mr. Edwin Netto from Mangalore. The award has been shared equally each one getting Rs. 25,000, a Citation and Mann Potr; Mr. P. D’Souza, a senior writer and journalist for over 60 years. Mr. Edwin Netto a Konkani writer for over 45 years. They have been selected from the several entries received earlier, by a specially appointed selection panel comprising Mr. Francis Fernandes Cascia (Dramatist), Mr. Johny Suratkal, (Konkani Activist in Kuwait), Mr. Henry D’Paula, (Konkani Writer), Mr. Naveen Kulshekar (Konkani Writer), and Mr. Henry D’Silva, Suratkal (Dramatist and Businessman). Selection of candidates for the award is made on the basis of those who have made excellent contribution towards Konkani. Mr. P. D’Souza (82) served Konkani with his writings for over 60 years. Mr. Edwin Netto (64) a Konkani writer for over 45 years. The cash amount of Rs. 50,000 is raised by reserving 25% advertisement amount in the ‘Divo Mt. Mary special issue’ published during 1st week of September 2002. This issue consisting 40 pages of tabloid size with a number of multi colour pages and with over 25 talented contributors participating in the issue specialised in their respective fields. The award will be presented to the winners at a function which will be held at a specially decorated ‘Francis Fernandes Cascia Matov’ at Dr. Antonio da Silva High School Hall, Dadar, Mumbai. at 5.00 p.m. on 2nd November 2002. The ceremony also includes Konkani Cultural items. Last years award of Rs. 50,000 went to Mr. Ronald Pereira, Konkani writer and Mrs. Molly Lobo, Konkani Stage artist. Divo, a popular Illustrated Konkani Weekly published from Mumbai since eight years in Kannada script is widely read in Karnataka, Mumbai and in Gulf countries as well.
