CMS PROTESTS OVER UK TRAVEL ADVISORY: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar yesterday said that he had personally written to the British government registering his protest against its travel advisory describing Goa as an unsafe destination. Mr Parrikar said the travel advisory quotes unrealistic figures of rapes against British women to issue it to its citizens. If you check the figures Goa can be safer than London and New York as far as such crimes against women are concerned, Mr Parrikar said. (H) MISSING SENIOR CITIZEN FOUND MURDERED: The 77-year-old man from Kirbhat-Carmona, Satyro Fernandes, who had gone missing since September 24 night, was finally found killed in Canacona. Satyros decomposed body was recovered from the roadside at Dumane in Agonda late on Saturday evening. The gold chain, a gold ring and the wrist watch, which the deceased was wearing, were found missing. (H) WAS THE MURDER PLANNED? Police sources reveal that the victimSatyro Fernandesused to lend money on interest and a huge amount was outstanding from different persons. Cops also say that he had called all his debtors on 30 September for a meeting with him. (GT) CADRE DECISION DEFERRED: The Goa Cabinet yesterday deferred taking a final decision on the issue of adopting a new Indian Administrative Service (IAS) cadre for the State. (H) PETITION FILED: A special leave petition was yesterday filed in the Supreme Court against the judgement dated September 4, 2002, passed by the Panjim Bench of Bombay High Court, dismissing the Public Interest Litigation filed by Adv Aires Rodrigues challenging the appointments of Avinash Vaze and Datta Keny as Chairman and Member of the Goa Public Service Commission, respectively. ILLEGAL GARBAGE DUMPING BLOCKED: The Saligao Comunidade assisted by the Saligao Civic Consumer Cell blocked the alleged illegal dumping of garbage on the Saligao plateau by barricading the path used by truck to dump the garbage. (H) CLASSES FOR TOURIST TAXI DRIVERS: The tourist taxi drivers in the State will soon begin to strike a courteous conversation in basic French, German and Portuguese, with foreign tourists visiting the State. Thanks to the efforts of the Tourism department, which has now made it compulsory for taxi drivers to learn some relevant communication skills in foreign language while applying for renewal of their drivers badge. It is one of the oldest churches in Goa constructed n the year 1570 by the Jesuits. The beauty of the Church lies in retaining its original 16th century architectural character and aesthetic look. Now the Church is to be renovated and remodeled along modern lines which will definitely destroy its heritage character.
