Oral health survey underway in state
------------------------------------------------

A national oral health survey in collaboration of Dental Council of India,
New Delhi and Goa Dental College Bambolim is underway in Goa.
The survey is an ongoing study being carried out in various parts of India
by the Dental Council of India. The objective of the survey is to collect
information about the oral health status and treatment needs of the people.

A team of trained dentists and social scientists will visit selected villages.
The team from yesterday began the survey in Canacona to cover areas of Cola,
Canacona and Gaodongrem. Areas of Ambaulim and Morpila in Quepem taluka,
Loutulim, Nuvem, Betalbatim, Rachol, Curtorim, Sao Jose de Areal, Mulem,
Carmona and Navelim in Salcete taluka Dabolim Sancoale and Cansaulim
in Mormugao taluka, Codlim Santona and Curpem in Sanguem taluka
will also be covered under this programme.

The survey will also be taken up in urban areas, in Aquem ward 16,
Benaulim ward 1, Canacona ward 10, Cuncolim ward 11, Margao ward 11,
Mormugao ward 4, 11 and Sanguem ward 9. The survey team will visit
households in the area and inquire from people in various age groups about
their oral health related practices and conduct oral health examinations.

They will also collect samples of drinking water to estimate the level of 
fluoride.
Fluoride plays a vital role in prevention of dental decay. The date obtained
will be utilised to formulate an Oral Health Policy at national level and 
also for Goa.

The data collected will form part of the global Oral Data Bank being 
maintained
by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The people are requested to extend
all cooperation to the visiting team to make the survey programme a success
