Freedom fighter, Gurunath Kelekar, MMC Councillor, Auda Viegas and thinker Datta Naik called on Murkundey this evening at Aguada jail. The trio were joined by GPCC president, Nirmala Sawant, who later convinced upon the woman the need to pay the fine and get release from the prison. "She was not prepared to pay the fine and wanted to continue to spend the remaining 14 days in Jail", informed Mr Kelekar, adding that she later obliged them after being told that they fully supported her cause. Sources said the right thinking citizens of the city are meeting in the next two days to chalk out a programme to make the Margao Municipal Council understand the need to maintain the public toilets and to provide other basic needs to the citizens. Murkundey was booked by the police more than a year ago in Margao after she allegedly urinated in the Gandhi market office of the municipal inspector. On Tuesday, the JMFC, Margao convicted her for trespass into the Municipal inspectors office by sentencing her to pay a fine of Rs 500 or in default to undergo 15 days simple imprisonment.
