Madkaikar to donate monthly salary for his new trust

Donating one's entire monthly salary of an impressive Rs 30,000
for a charitable cause is quite uncommon. It's even more unusual
when the philanthropist happens to be Transport Minister, Pandurang
Madkaikar.
'Madkaikar's Nav Chaitanya Trust', a family trust of the Transport Minister
Pandurang Madkaikar, will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar
on November 2 at 7 pm in the panchayat hall at Old Goa.
Explaining at length the aims and objectives of the Trust while speaking
to Herald, Madkaikar said only those residing in Cumbharjua would be
entitled to avail of the facilities to be provided by the Trust.
"Village development committees comprising 20 members of each village
have already been constituted. The names of these committees will be
announced on November 2 by the chief minister after the inauguration
of the Trust," Madkaikar said. The poor and the needy of Cumbharjua
constituency who may need assistance, could approach the Trust
through their village committee, he added.
The Trust will function from his residence at Old Goa.
Asked pointedly as to how he would generate the required funds for his Trust,
Madkaikar informed that he would donate his entire monthly packet
of his salary of Rs 30,000 to the Trust. "The Trust, which has been registered
on Thursday, will also include an ambulance which will be available
to the people in case of an emergency," he informed.
The minister further informed that on the occasion, about 1,000 workers
of his party from the constituency, including the sarpanchas, will assemble
at the venue under the banner of 'Cumbharjua Constituency Development
Committee', to discuss and undertake developent work in respect of
Cumbharjua constituency.
Among others who will grace the function are PWD Minister Sudin Dhavlikar,
Town and Country Planning Minister Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate
and president of MGP Shashikala Kakodkar.
