Stray dogs
------------------
The dog menace in our State must be seen to be believed.
The population of strays has grown beyond all limits.
On a morning jog, one sees stray dogs everywhere in the streets,
lanes, by lanes and open spaces.
Defecating and fornicating in the open, the strays have defied
all attempts to curb their population. On the hillocks in Margao
no more scavenging piglets are to be found as the stray dogs chase
and devour these helpless animals. Small kittens on the hillocks
have no chance of living as they have become easy prey
for the hungry dogs.
The beaches of Colva, Benaulim, Majorda, Utorda have
numerous canines in the early mornings causing nuisance
on the beaches. Many a trawler labourers and these pests
are seen defecating on the shores leaving a foul stench and a
feeling of disgust.
The menace of strays must be stopped once and for all.
This can be done through local authorities and determined Government.
All dog owners must be fined if their dogs stray in the neighbourhood.
