CM, GOVERNOR EXTEND GREETINGS: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Governor

41 ST LIBERATION JUBILEE: The state is all set for the celebrations of 41
st anniversary of Goa's Liberation where Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar
will unfurl the tricolour, inspect guard of honour, take salute to
contingents of the march past and speak to the State at a function at the
Parade Grounds, Campal, Panjim, at 9.15 am today. (H)
RUSSIA TRUSTS INDIA: In looking for a strategic partner, Russia need not
look any further than India as was apparent from the comments made by
Russian Military attaché to India, Victor N Chemov, at the commissioning of

GOA POLICE ON TOES: The Goa police are working overtime in a bid to gather
more information about suspicious visitors in light of apprehensions
expressed by Israeli authorities regarding the safety of its nationals in

AIMED AT MALIGNING IMAGE: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has said that
jealousy factor cannot be ruled out for the reports of a possible terror
attack on Israeli tourists during New Year eve celebrations in Goa even as
the security arrangements were reviewed at a high level meeting held at the
Secretariat…He said it was astonishing to know that reports about
information of a possible attack had been made public which normally
doesn't happen. "If you want to blow up something, you will never go to the

ISRAELIS BRING TERROR EXCITEMENT FOR GOA: "Even the suggestion that Goa
should play host to Islamic terrorists attack on Israelis on the New Year
eve sounds pathetic. Still more pathetic is the elaborate security
arrangements being made by the preventive agencies to protect the lives of
those uninvited Israeli tourists, who would be indulging in orgies of
"trance" and "acid" parties and perhaps sex and that too on Goa's virgin
beaches like Anjuna, Calangute, Colva and Palolem." (Edit in GT)
GOAN SAUSAGE INSPIRES KARNATAKA SCIENTISTS: Seeing the commercial success
of the sausage making industry in Goa, a team of veterinary science
students visited some domestic units in Goa in a bid to gain first hand
knowledge of making the spicy and tangy food item…The researchers are keen
to replicate the success of the pork sausage back home in a new avatara
mutton sausage. If it succeeds, it would be perhaps a "first:" in the

BID TO TOPPLE CARRASCO: The shrill campaign against Mapusa Municipal
Council Chairperson Michael Carrasco has reached its peak, with councilors
in the ruling group sending a strong message against his "autocratic" style
of functioning, demanding nothing short of his resignation…What has given
credence to the current toppling bid is the unhappiness expressed by his
own colleagues over his style of functioning and perfomance. (H)
SHIFT GARBAGE WITHIN 3 WEEKS: The Panaji bench of the Bombay High Court
yesterday directed the Margao Municipal Council to make all endeavours to
complete the entire process of shifting garbage within here weeks on a
petition alleging nuisance and pollution caused by indiscriminate dumping
of untreated garbage at Sonsoddo. (NT)
HELMET RULE AGAIN? Dig Karnal Singh hinted that the police might one again
begin enforcing the use of helmets in the State. Speaking at a seminar in
the city, Singh, however, added that the enforcement would begin only after
sufficient awareness was created through similar seminars. (GT)
WSF TO CELEBRATE LIBERATION DAY: Mr Christopher Fonseca, member of the
World Social Forum, India, announced that a public celebration of Goa
Liberation Day would be held by the Goa Unit of WSF on December 19, at Azad
Maidan. "The Liberation Utsav, which is a preparatory function for the
5-day mega conference of WSF at Hyderabad from Jan 2 to 7, will have
participation of citizens' groups, trade unions, NGOs, cultural troupes and

TOURISTS THRASHED: Three tourists, all engineering students from Hyderabad,
were thrashed by local boys after they got into an argument while playing
football at the Calangute beach on December 18 at around 6.15 pm. (NT)
SON BURGLES MOTHER'S SHOP: In an unusual burglary, Maria Luisa D'Costa has
claimed that her son and three others broke into three shops owned buy the
former and stole articles worth Rs.1 lakh. (H)
FALLING STANDARDS OF TIATR: Tomazinho Cardozo has expressed serious concern
over the deteriorating levels of tiatr over the recent years. In a letter
to the Kala Academy, Tomazinho called for convening a meeting of writers,
directors, artistes and other interested persons in tiatr to discuss
matters that have threatened the very existence of tiatr. Tomazinho was one
of the judges in the 38 th Tiatr Festival which concluded recently. (H)
AWARD FOR PRADNYA: Ms Pradnya Vasant Prabhudesai of Poinguinim, Canacona,
will be receiving the prestigious Indian Drug Manufacturer's Association's
GP Naik award for her excellent performance in the final examination of
Bachelor of Pharmacy on December 21 at Mumbai. Ms Prabhudesai stood first
in Goa University final B Pharma examination for 2001. (NT)

taekwondo competition of the 32 nd National Games at Hyderabad on December
18. The silver was claimed by Precilia Dias in women's heavyweight

NAVELIM LIFT DASWIN CUP: Navelim Youth Centre, Kuwait, defeated a spirited
Veterans Club by a solitary goal to win the 10 th Daswin Memorial 7-a-side
