 Mumbai-based renowned activist, environmentalist, journalist
and film-maker Anand Patwardhan, has been selected for the Fr.Parmananda
Divarkar Memorial Award "Communication for Peace" by the Xavier Institute
of Communications (XIC).
 The award has been presented for the second time by XIC in memory
of Fr. Parmananda Divarkar who was a distinguished Jesuit, a scholar and a
philosopher of repute. Fr. Divarkar's interests were inter-religious
dialogue and spirituality, and his numerous friends from every background
testify to his ability to build bridges of peace and harmony between
diverse groups.
 Chief Guest, Mr. Julio F. Ribeiro, IPS(Retd.) and Ex-Commissioner
of Police, Mumbai, will present the award at a ceremony on Thursday, January
30,
2003 at the St. Xavier's College Hall, 7 p.m.
 Anand Patwardhan, who believes that "environmental issues, human
rights and social justice are interconnected", will receive this award in
recognition of the exemplary work he is doing in promoting peace,
development,
reconciliation and harmony in society. The Communication for Peace Award
consists of a citation and a cash prize.
