The estimates project a likely augmentation of revenue on account of the proposed upward revision of rent of Municipal premises and collection of transfer fees. The liabilities are also in for an increase due to filling-up of newly created and vacant posts.
The budget estimates will now be placed before the Council for approval. The total receipts are pegged at Rs 882.07 lakhs, while the expenditure is shown at Rs 842.99 lakhs a surplus of around Rs 40 lakhs.
This year's budget estimates has taken into account the revision of advertisement tax in revised estimates 2002-03 and the adoption of the trade and occupation byelaws during the coming financial year.
Of the total receipts, the council expect to receive the revenue from taxes pegged at Rs 163.22 lakhs, municipal properties Rs 147.70 lakhs and grant-in-aid Rs 473 crores.
The revenue will mostly go towards the establishment for payment of staff salaries pegged at Rs 372.66 crores. Around Rs five lakhs will go for the repayment of loans and salary reserve fund while Rs 254 crores has been earmarked for developmental works.
Of the grant-in-aid of Rs 473 lakhs, Rs 15 lakhs represent installation of computers, Rs 95 lakhs represent Dearness Allowance to Municipal employees, Rs 25 lakhs for the common cadre staff, Rs 1.50 crore for developmental works.
Around Rs 1 lakh has been earmarked towards the disposal of dead bodies, Rs 12 lakhs for the rehabilitation of existing mundkars at Malbhat and rehabilitation of kiosks.The budget estimates will now come up for approval before the Council at a meeting scheduled on February 28 at 4 pm. ------------------------ HERALD 21/02/03 ------------------------
