Besides the Western bias and ecocomic class bias (middle class and rich) of this
rendering of
"history", today's listing also reveals a strong bias against women. There is only
one mention of
a woman (and that too for adultery!). Does one think that 50% of the world's
population (women)
have not contributed positively or in greater numbers than this list suggests.

"History" (read his-story as regards today's list) is presented as facts. It is not
value-neutral. Gullible people swallow easily. By repeating this kind of "history"
one is
perpetuating the usual prejudices I listed above. I have even seen so called
general-knowledge and
IQ tests based on this info., often marginalizing people of color and women in the
process.
Deconstruction allows the traditional prejudices of the past (which favor the west and
men, mostly
white men) to be evaluated more accurately. Some people call this revising history
(usually men
and defenders of colonialism and racism) and treat any revision in a degrogatory
manner. To them,
I have one suggestion: this list serves as good wallpaper, preferably in a toilet and
this
worthless nugget "In 1660, Charles II was restored to the English throne" as
toilet-paper.
