The movement for Goan independence was not based on the wishes of the majority of Goans and did not have its momentum and surge from within Goa or with the consent of the majority of Goans. It was the Indian government's will and military ability that anexed Goa because they believed that Goa was part of India. So the motives were geopolitical in nature. It had nothing to do with the 'vox populi' (of the Goans). Although I am 'geographically' and Indian now, my roots are steeped in Poruguese/Goan culture. However strongly you may want to ignore this fact, it will keep staring you in the face. And I agree with Carmo's views that sanitation and security were tops during the Portuguese times in Goa. That does not mean there were no negatives. No one and no nation is perfect. I rest my case. By the way, Tariq, you did not respond to Carmo's question regarding your stay in Goa, before December 19, 1961.
