CONTEMPT NOTICE: MARGAO BUSINEESMAN TENDERS UNCONDITIONAL APOLOGY TO HC Margao businessman Mr. Ramdas Naik today tendered an unconditional apology to the Panaji Bench of the High Court in response to a notice issued to him last week by Justice F.I Rebello as to why proceedings should not be initiated against him under the contempt of Court law.
The matter in question is an illegal construction in the verandah of Santa Almas chapel on station Road at Margao which was earlier demolished on three occasions by the Margao Municipal Council. Aggrieved by the inaction of the Municipal authorities to demolish the illegal structure again, a devotee of Santa Almas Chapel Mr. Armando Dias represented by Adv. Aires Rodrigues approached the High Court which directed Mr. Naik to remove the shutter and directed the Municipal Appellate tribunal to dispose within three months Mr. Naik's appeal against the Margao Municipal Council's demolition notice within three months. . Mr. Naik removed the rolling shutter and replaced it with a thick wooden door against which the Petitioner Mr. Armando Dias moved the Court again through a contempt petition but Mr. Naik in his affidavit today stated that as soon as he received the contempt notice he removed the wooden sheets. When the matter came up for hearing today Advocate Aires Rodrigues representing Mr. Armando Dias submitted that the removal of the shutter was just an eye-wash and that Mr. Naik had inserted a wooden door in clear contempt of the Court's earlier directive, The Court adjourned the matter to August 8th to enable the petitioner Armando Dias to submit further evidence that Mr. Naik was still violating the court order. As directed by the High Court the Chief Officer of Margao Municipal Council also inspected the site and submitted a report today that the rolling shutter has been removed but the rolling shutter frame is still existing. Mr. Ramdas Naik is being represented by Adv. Saresh Lotlikar while Adv. Aires Rodrigues is appearing for the Petitioner. ########################################################################## # Send submissions for Goanet to [EMAIL PROTECTED] # # PLEASE remember to stay on-topic (related to Goa), and avoid top-posts # # More details on Goanet at http://joingoanet.shorturl.com/ # # Please keep your discussion/tone polite, to reflect respect to others # ##########################################################################
