DUAL CITIZENSHIP BY YEAR END: Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani yesterday said
the country will have a dual citizenship law by the end of the year. He said
Indians living abroad will get Indian citizenships as well as of their
adopted country. (WE-GT)

MICKKY PUTS OFF PLANTS TO JOIN BJP: In a sudden turn of events, the
flamboyant Benaulim MLA and Tourism Minister, Mickky Pacheco, has put of all
plans indefinitely to join the BJP, just three days before the planned
function next week. (H)

NEED TIME TO THINK: The Tourism Minister, Mr Francisco Xavier Pacheco,
yesterday said that he would give a second thought to his decision of
joining the BJP as he did not want o take any hasty decision. (NT)

DR WILLY'S 'MEDICINE'? Did Dr Wilfred de Souza, the Goa Chief of Nationalist
Congress Party, play his due role in persuading Mickky Pacheco to finally
change his mind? Sources said the NCP chief walked into the Betalbatim
residence of Pacheco on Friday evening and was closetted with the latter for

FOREIGNERS SAVED AT PALOLEM: Four foreigners and an Indian were saved by the
local youth and a lifeguard off Palolem beach late Friday evening. (H)

COPS 'DOZE': Though the Zuari bridge is yet to be re-opened for heavy
vehicles like trucks and six-wheeler vehicles, many truck drivers have been
found to be using the bridge at night, inspite of police personnel being
posted on duty on both ends of the bridge. (WE-GT)

SKYBUS PROTOTYPE: With the completion of the skybus prototype, the Konkan
Railway Corporation Ltd is eagerly awaiting for a suitable date from the
Prime Minister's office for the inauguration of the project. Rs.7 crore have
been put into building the prototype at the Margao railway station. If the
project gets through, Goa would be the first Sate to have such a project.
The mode is considered to be cheaper and safer than the usual railway. Kochi
and Goa are slated to be the first two cities to have skybus service. (NT)

VELSAO-CANSAULIM LOCALS DEBATE: "What exactly is it going to be? Will the
benefits percolate down to the local populace? What is the gain for the
locals in case the village gets the privilege to host the annual mega event.
And, what negative impact, if any, will it have on the life-style of the
citizenry? These are simple questions coming from simple residents along the
coastal Velsao-Cansaulim belt, one of the two shortlisted places in Goa for
the proposed venue of the International Film Festival of India. (H)

FOCUS ON LEGISLATION ON ALCOHOL, TRAINING: Legislation banning consumption
of alcohol by youngsters below 21, compulsory military-type training and a
need to revamp education-based on Indian values, were some of the key
suggestions which were put forth during the two-day inter-active sessions

INAUGURATED TWICE: The rivalry between the political parties surfaced at
Molkornem when a newly erected electricity transformer was inaugurated twice
(by Quepem MLA Chandrakant Kavelkar and Molcornem sarpanch Sulaksha

REMEDIAL TEACHING: The Goa Headmasters' Association has reiterated that
'remedial teaching' is not a new concept and it was introduced by some
schools in the past. It has proved beneficial to weaker students to improve

ASSONORA-PORVORIM PIPELINE: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar stated that the
laying of the new water pipeline from Assonora to Porvorim is nearing
completion and the residents of Porvorim would receive water for 12 hours
per day by October. He was speaking at the Aldona BJP workers' mela
organised at Socorro. (H)

FRUSTRATION AMONGST YOUTH: The National Commission for Youth observed that
the growing cases of unemployment in Goa and lack of job security have made
frustration creep into the new generation. The absence of adequate
job-oriented educational avenues like agricultural and fishery colleges have
compounded the situation, it deduced. (NT)

NO PLANS TO PRIVATISE BSNL, MTNL: Union Minister of State of Communications
S Thirunanvukkarasar yesterday ruled out any plans to privatize BSNL or
MTNL.

REAL TIME GROSS SETTLEMENT: Reserve Bank of India is planning to implement
the Real Time Gross Settlement system, a modern method of settlement process

DVD PLAYERS DELAYED DUE TO SARS: Akai has informed its customers that there
has been a delay in delivery of Akai DVD players which were on offer on the
World Cup scheme floated by Akai during the cricket World Cup. The delay has
been caused due to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. (H)

GEOLOGICAL HISTORY OF GOA: Noted geologist and senior lecturer of Geology at
the Dhempe College of Arts and Science, Prof Orlando A Fernandes, has
carried out extensive field work at Palolem-Canacona, the location of one of
the oldest rock formation of Goa, namely the Tondhjemite Gneiss. Goa has a
rich and long human history but its geological record of the past is far
more daunting. Here the oldest rock in India has been dated at 3.8 billion
years. The rock is a thondhjemite gneiss from the Anmod ghat. (Prajal

LESOTHO PM ARRIVES: The Prime Minister of Lesotho, Mr Pakalitha Bethuel
Mosisili, accompanied by First Lady Mrs. Mathato Mosisili and 16-members

'DAL' FESTIVAL: The Regency, Hotel La Paz Gardens, Vasco, has started 'Dalon
ka Zaikedar Safar' from August 4 to 17. (H)

DAMODAR SAPTAH IN VASCO: The traditional Shri Damodar Bhajani saptah
festival at Vasco gets underway on today with various bhajan programmes
accompanying 'paars' (tableaux) depicting scenes from the puranas, livening
up the atmosphere in and around Shri Damodar Temple. The festival completes

Echo Lab in the State. Fr Colaco obtained his training in Alabama, USA,
under the world renowned Dr Navin Nanda. He evinced a passion for
Echocardiography, the revolutionary non-invasive modality that, with the
help of sounds, provides unique information about the heart in health and
disease. In 1991, he introduced the Doppler technique and in 1996 Color
Doppler Echocardiography for the first time also. (H)
