----------------------------------------------------------
A 68-yr-old widow, Rukmini alias Kishori Narayan Parsenkar was brutally
murdered on Thursday night at Canca-Tivim and the assailant made good
with her gold ornaments.

The Mapusa police inspector, Mr Sammy Tavares said the lady lived
in Muddawaddo, Canca-Tivim and was alone at home last night. She was
bludgeoned to death with a very heavy hammer. Such was the force used
by the unknown assailant, that the forehead portion of her skull and
eye was completely shattered. Her gold chain and ear-rings, worth
about Rs 6000 are reported missing. Police also found the bedroom
cupboard ransacked.

Police have learnt that the deceased was at her neighbour's house from
6 till 8 p.m. yesterday and went home afterwards. Around 9 a.m. today
morning another neighbourhood lady went to buy coconuts from her
and found the front door locked from inside. Other neighbours who
gathered saw that the rear door was ajar and on entering found her
lying in a pool of blood on her mat.

The hammer used to kill her was found close by. Police said the
assailant entered the house by removing the roof tiles of the kitchen
which is very low. The murderer left through the rear door.

Normally, the deceased lady lived with her married daughter and
her son-in-law Mr Ashok Ramchandra Mayenkar from Mulgaon,
Bicholim. But the couple had gone to Mulgaon due to Ganesh
celebrations. The lady's other daughter is married in Siolim.

The police dog squad traced the murderer's scent upto the Tivim
railway station about one-and-half kilometre from the house.
Finger print experts were also called in. Mr Devendra Verma,
the superintendent of police (SP), North Goa and Bicholim deputy
superintendent of police (DySP) Mr M K Dessai visited the scene
of crime today along with the investigating officer of this case, the
