Mumbai, Sep 28 (IANS) Lata Mangeshkar's 75th birthday was celebrated at a glittering function here Sunday at which popular artistes rendered many of her haunting songs and Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani felicitated India's undisputed melody queen. Advani was among a host of film personalities and politicians who greeted Lata Mangeshkar and wished her many more years in the world of music. Joining Advani on the stage at the "Lata Mangeshkar - Tum Jiyo Hazaaron Saal" concert at the Andheri Sports Complex were lyricist Javed Akhtar, film director Yash Chopra, Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi, Maharashtra Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and Shiv Sena supreme Bal Thackerey son and political heir Udhav Thakerey. The extravaganza, typical of Bollywood, featured artistes like Udit Narayan, Hariharan, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Shankar Mahadevan and Roopkumar Rathod. The concert marked the beginning of yearlong celebrations to honour the veteran singer. The celebrations will wind up with a concert similar to Sunday's at Indore, where Lata Mangeshkar was born. Born on September 28, 1929, Lata Mangeshkar began singing at the age of 13 in order to keep the family fires burning following the death of her father, veteran theatre personality Dinanath Mangeshkar. In less than a decade she had established herself as a Bollywood personality.
