Bogmallo clinched the Goan Inter-Village Soccer Tournament with a solitary goal win over Aldona on Sunday. A 35-yard goal by Xavier Rodrigues, off a short pass from a free-kick, floated into the right-hand corner of the Aldona net. The intended cross dipped into the goal, probably helped by the cold weather, catching goalkeeper Justin D'Silva completely off-guard as he had stepped forward. The goal disappointed Justin greatly since just earlier he had saved supberly a penalty-kick. Justin was the main barrier for Bogmallo as he often foiled the forwards with his quick reflexes. Bogmallo, who last won the Gaudencio Fernandes Memorial Trophy in 1998, had the better of the play. Aldona were content on defending. Missing one of its star players, Joe Fernades, for much of the match, the Aldona attacked suffered. Joe can in very late in the match but hampered by a back injury, he could not contribute much. Just after conceeding the goal, Aldona made two frantic attemps at the Bogmallo. One deft shot was saved on the goalline by forward Dempo player, John D'Souza. Aldona, a team made up mostly of D'Silva brothers and cousins, were lucky to have made into the final. They edged out Calangute in the semi-finals. Bogmallo crashed into the final with an unconvinving 3-1 win over Margoa, the holders.
