MATANHY CRITICAL OF BRO PLANS (5TH NOVEMBER, 2003 (Page 3) Gomantak Times News Service
Cortalim: Matanhy Saldanha, MLA of Cortalim, has said the Border Road Organisation (BRO) has failed to keep up its promise to complete the road up to the airport before 2 October. Worse still it does not appear there is any planning to link the existing village roads to the 4-lane National Highway 17B. People using the existing highway are put to great hardship for the last three years. Saldanha said that the road from Sancoale to St. Jacinto, linking to NH 17b is presently in disarray due to increased height of the NH 17b. He has demanded that the level of the existing road be raised in such a way, that there should be a smooth flow of traffic from the existing St. Jacinto road to NH 17b. The delay in completion of the road is mainly caused due to the diversion of alignment from the existing Zuarinagar road to the present site. It has not only escalated cost but also caused difficulties giving BRO an excuse for the delay. Saldanha has called upon the BRO, Stup Consultants and PWD to immediately build a service road or else the number of punctures on the existing 4-lane highway will cause more accidents than ever before. COMMENTS: Nowhere else is the state of fragmentation and disarray in the UGDP Legislature Party more apparent than that Mr. Mathany Saldanha, the sole legislator of the UGDP ( the other two having split and formed their own factions) is painted into a position of being the sole "CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTOR" to the ways of the ruling coalition, which Mathany has consistently refused to join right from the time he was elected on the UGDP ticket. We commend his courageous stance and his fortitude in resisting the trappings of office in the ruling coalition. Perhaps Mathany is begining to express his suffocation. Is this the sign of " MATHANY'S METANOIA (MATHANY'S CHANGE OF HEART) ?"
