A scooterist also suffered minor injuries. Mathew Afonso, 42, a seaman by profession and his son Miran, 7, who were traveling home to Pazarconi on a scooter, were run over by the speeding bus. (GT)
KERI MOTORCYCLIST KILLED IN MISHAP: A motorcyclist died on the spot at Cuncoliem-Kundaim, when he was struck by an oncoming tipper truck on November 12. Vasant Jalmi (35) of Keri-Ponda was proceeding from Mardol towards Kundaim on his motorcycle. (H) STUDENT KILLED IN MISHAP: Shelton Savio Monteiro, a 15-year-old college student from St Inez lost his life in a tragic accident at Miramar yesterday morning. Monteiro, a student of Dempo higher secondary school was riding a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle towards Dona Paula, when he lost control of the vehicle when the vehicle hit a stone near the Goa Science Centre. In an interesting development, the State government is intending to withdraw the exemptions granted for use of protective headgear for persons riding two-wheelers in the State. (GT) TOURISTS GO AFLUTTER ON 'BUTTERFLY' BEACH: Long before it was overrun by tourists and chaos, Palolem was named Paradise beach by hippies. But now a little known 100-metre stretch nearby is bewitching a few discerning tourists and locals with its magic. Barely two kms south of Agonda beach as the crow flies, this strip of shimmering sands is amazingly framed by gigantic rocks on both sides. Ensconced in a small sylvan valley, this spot is slowly gaining popularity. Though locals refer to the beach as "Roichi Voll", after the nearby spring flowing into the sea, tourists have named it "Butterfly Beach". As one steps on the grass, one is bound to rouse tiny butterflies who look like a shower of petals in flight. (GT) VASCO SUICIDE VICTIM DEAD: A woman from Shantinagar, who attempted suicide last week, succumbed to injuries late Tuesday night at the Goa Medical College Hospital at Bambolim.
