The accused Gaurish Sawal who was immediately arrested by the Mapusa police has been remanded to seven days in police custody by JMFC, Mapusa.
According to police, the 12-year-old victim was proceeding to a bakery to buy bread on Saturday evening at around 7 p.m.
The accused noticing her walking all alone, started following her. The victim, however, ignored him and proceeded to the bakery. However, while she was returning back, the accused who was hiding behind a compound wall by the side of the road, caught hold of her and forcefully took her to a closed house where he allegedly raped her in the verandah of the house.
After committing the gruesome crime, the accused threatened the girl that he would kill her if she informed anybody of the incident.
The victim who was bleeding profusely, managed to get back to her house. On seeing blood stains on her dress, the mother of the girl questioned her and the victim narrated the whole incident to her mother.The mother immediately informed the neighbours, who asked her to lodge a police complaint.
Acting swiftly on the compliant, Mapusa police, led by PI Sammy Tavares, rushed to Guirim and nabbed the accused, from his residence.
PI Tavares disclosed, that medical examination of the victim and the accused had confirmed the rape.
