What follows here is certainly not first aid to AIDS. This is something to heed if you love life and living. An article from my book Naked Goa. I hope it is not out of place. Tony Get Hot & Chill Out With AIDS! Guess what follows unrestrained fornication? And mind you there is a big prize for guessing the answer to that. Don¡¦t know? Well the answer is obviously AIDS (Acquired Immuno deficiency Syndrome). And the prize for those who know the answer is life itself. First the chilling statistics. Since the first HIV case was detected in Goa way back in 1987, the number of HIV positive cases has been rising by leaps and bounds. Till October 2001, the total number of HIV cases reported to the GSACS are 4305. The actual figure could be much higher. From January 1990 to May 2001 57.26% of those tested positive were married. So its time we wake up to the fact that it¡¦s not just the homosexuals, bisexuals, junkies and prostitutes or sex workers who are prone to AIDS. Even a housewife is not safe. Earlier it happened only in the Africas and the Americas or Bangkok and Thailand but not in Goa. Goans could have occasional flings here and there and be perfectly safe from it. Not anymore. So what then? Is there no way to indulge in fornication safely? In fact the answer cannot be a conclusive yes or no. We are all potential victims ¡V maybe by deliberate choice, carelessness or accident. In the circumstances your best bet is to maintain a strictly monogamous relationship and worship only your wife if you love life. It¡¦s not about safe sex. As the Sangh Parivar rightly puts it the slogan should be ¡¥sex exclusively with your life partner.¡¦ Or it could be something like ¡¥Be faithful or be dead.¡¦ However, in an age when passions are running high and nobody seems to rest content without experiencing the ecstasy of making it with somebody else, a large number of people would prefer to ignore the above advice, in which case you would do good to go by a few elementary rules for fornication. „« Always carry a pack of the best available condoms. Take Nirodh at your own risk. „« Don¡¦t get carried away in the excitement forgetting all about the condoms in your pocket. „« Avoid casual sex with strangers. „« When you just cannot restrain your unbearable ardour, don¡¦t run around hunting for a lay; just make a dash to the bathroom and relieve yourself. „« If you have to visit a prostitute see that you use a condom. „« Try anal sex only when you are sure life is not worth living. Regarding oral sex, remember an HIV dose received through the mouth is no less dangerous. Interestingly, all these precautions and risks are only for the sake of a few moments pleasure. But that is the way the human anatomy is, which makes exercising caution important. But just imagine this, one sunny day, you are with this stranger, a seductive, mightily attractive bomb of a woman who invites you to have a dip into her cup of joy. You too are all warmed up, but you don¡¦t have a condom and there are none available in the vicinity. What do you do? If you believe in miracles, say nothing comes between you and the pleasure; not even a condom, and get into action. If not, speed home and read your Bible.
