To answer Peter D'souza's question, there is a fairly large, albeit undocumented (in numbers) group of Evangelical and Pentecostal Christians in Goa. Some of them are part of churches planted by foreign missionaries and others like Cornerstone Fellowship (Margao) started by ex-Jesuit Victor Affonso, New Life Fellowship (one of the fastest growing Pentecostal churches in India), Good News Church (Margao) were started by churches in Bombay or other large metropolitan areas.
Besides the churches I mentioned which on an average have 200 members and upward, there are a number of other fellowships (groups of Christians) that meet in homes all over Goa. These born-again Christians refer to themselves as 'believers' although I'm not sure if the group that Alfred deTavares is referring to calls themselves by that specific name or if that is the generic term being used to describe them. Re: Cradle to Grave security, perhaps he refers to the 'Eternal Security' doctrine which SOME evangelicals hold to. If you would like further information on this doctrine, please email me. I think you will find that the Pentecostal churches tend to outnumber the evangelicals. As a former member, I have a number of friends in Cornerstone Fellowship (Goa) and New Life (Bombay). I had the occasion when I was in Goa last Dec to go to a healing crusade organised by the Cornerstone Fellowship. The visiting preacher was from Canada. We didn't stay for the whole meeting but there were about 500 to 800 people that first night. If you need any contact information, I would be glad to try and obtain it for you. Please email me off-list for it.
