12 INDIANS AMONG 44 DEAD IN UAE PLAN CRASH: Forty-four people died and two survived when an Iranian plane crashed and burst into flames yesterday, narrowly missing a crowded residential area in the United Arab Emirates. The dead comprised 19 Iranians, 12 Indians, four Egyptians, two Filipinos, two Algerians, one Bangladeshi, one Chinese, one Nigerian, one Syrian and one more person. (GT) COMUNIDADE "GHOTALA": Mapusa police have registered two cases of criminal breach of trust and misappropriation against the former office bearers of the managing committee of Mapusa Comunidade for collecting money for allotment of plots and not depositing the amount received from the applicants in the Comunidade account during the year 1993-1995. (NT) WILD BOAR FLESH IN TEMPLE PREMISES: When thousands of devotees attended the zatra of Shree Santeri Shantadurga Devasthan at Xeldem-Quepem from January 30 till February 10, they kept alive a practice unparalled in the state. The celebration of the Zatra after very 12 years, the hunting of a wild boar and the cooking of the flesh in the temple premises are all unique traditions of the Xeldem zatra. The Xeldem zatra traces its origin to the inhabitants of Xeldem, most of whom are Gauns Dessais, who were originally from Bicholim, Amona and Shendrem. Well in advance of the zatra festival, the mahajans go hunting for 12 days. They are expected to hunt a wild boar, else they cannot celebrate the zatra in that year.
