I know very little about the Goan inquisition. But if I wanted to
know about it, I would choose to read at least one of the several
scholarly books written on it by real historians, and glean some hard
facts from this exercise, rather than rely on someone's conjectures,
speculations and suppositions.

Some of the hard facts that I know so far are as follows. The word
inquisition is part of the recorded history of Goa, just as it is
part of the recorded history of Europe. I know the name of the
Catholic priest who appointed the first Goan inquisitor. I know the
names of four physicians who were convicted by this Holy Office, two
of whom were each burned at an auto da fe. In another case, the
mortal remains were exhumed and burned many years after their
interment. In the fourth case, the convicted individual was
imprisoned and then consigned to hard labor on a galley. I know that
there was a dreaded palace of the inquisition in Goa. I also know
that thousands of records pertaining to the Goan inquisition were
destroyed some time during the 19th century.

Cheers,

Santosh
