MAXIE D’LIMA BIDS “ADEUS” TO KUWAIT.

After working in Kuwait for 30 years, Mr. Maxie D’Lima one of the pillars of United Goans Centre finally volunteered to bid adieu to Kuwait. Last week during the farewell function organized at Village Inn Restaurant in Kuwait City by UG, every member of UG lauded the contribution of Maxie in the promotion of soccer at Sour Grounds thru UG. He joined UG in the very inception year when UG initiated soccer activities at Sour Grounds in 1979 and served it to the best of his abilities. While accepting the memento from the president of UG Mr. Tony Gonsalves, Maxie thanked everyone for being so friendly and co-operative in organizing soccer activities at Sour Ground.

Of the 30 years he worked in Kuwait, Maxie D’Lima spent 26 years with Kuwait Airways where he worked as Aircraft Maintenance Engineer. He did his engineering in UK before coming to Kuwait. Before joining KAC, he worked for Albert Abela. Hailing from Carona Aldona, Bardez, Maxie before settling down in Kuwait was a regular visitor to Kuwait since his father was already employed in Kuwait.

With Maxie’s bi-bi to Kuwait, UG will have yet another member less in their organization. Since the time of establishment of UG somewhere in 1978 UG had very good team of members. But gradually one by one started becoming less thus thinning their strength.

While speaking to this writer, Maxie said that he is very happy to return to his ancestral roots and soil and not somewhere in an adopted land. It is nice to see Maxie returning back to his roots in Goa instead of going somewhere where he will remain non-entity. It is my wish that Maxie while in Goa will do something for the cause of sports at least around his locality. The know-how and experience he gained in Kuwait should surely gain him lot of dividends.

A. Veronica Fernandes,
Kuwait.
