Its indeed a shame one of the most remarkable landmarks in Goa is being sacrificed for the sake of IFFI.

No doubt its a matter of great pride to hold this event annually.
But at what cost !!!

Campal grounds have bred considerable number of FOOTBALLERS who made the STATE
as well as the Country proud.

Sports is seen as an excellent avenue to chanelize ones energy into something fruitfull
and worthy but not anymore , parking lots departmental stores cinema halls these
conumerist structures are taking precedence in its place.

Mr. Parikar an IIT BOMBAY. graduate stooping so low is a disgrace.
I am SURE if sanity prevails and the pros and cons are laid, any RATIONAL human would
oppose the demolition of this wonderful LANDMARK.

Guess all work and no play has made Mr. CM an anti sports guy.

I hope and pray he realises his folly and GIFT the PANJIMITES a renovated sophisticated
OLYMPIC stadium.
I think we should alll pray the rosary for our CM which would help him to make the
RIGHT discissons in the interest of GOA and the GOANS.

AMEN.

Sports lovers were shocked to hear that the only football ground at Campal,
Panjim is going to be demolished so as to pave the way for the parking of
vehicles for the feeble few who will be attending the IFFI.

This ground is there since generations and has nurtured many players who have
excelled not only at the State, but also at the international level. Further, a
lot of sentiments are attached to this playground due to its adorning nature and
demolishing this ground for other purpose is to be likened to a man who
demolished a house so as to bring the rich man’s camel inside the house through
the narrow door. Let better sense and sanity prevail.

The Campal stadium holds a promising future for sportsperson of this generation
and also for the generations to come and the government in all seriousness has
to do a rethought to maintain the status quo. Such type of wanton destruction is
uncalled for and unwarranted.

The conversion of this playground for other purpose should not take place, so
feel many sportspersons who have called upon me to air their grievances. Having
represented the State team at the National level in football, I too firmly
endorse the views of the people that the government instead of demolishing this
stadium should take measures to develop this ground by providing it with better
infrastructure for the benefit and development of sports in the State.
