The accused who have been booked under Section 341, 363 r/w 34 of IPC are Shailesh Padte from Sindolem-Sancoale, Felix alias Botty from Cortalim and one Maria.
The complainant in her FIR alleged that on April 23, a woman who introduced herself as Maria and Felix came to her beauty parlour at around 8 pm and inquired about the rates for hair dying. Subsequently, Maria inquired about the complainant's work timings and place of residence.
Since the complainant was closing shop for the day, she asked the duo to come to the saloon the next day. Thereafter, the woman requested the complainant to accompany them since they were proceeding to Panjim, and that they could drop her to her residence.
The complainant agreed as she was familiar with Felix, but was in for a shock when the vehicle driven by Shailesh was diverted to Sancoale on the pretext of having soft drinks. They stopped at a bar and started calling an inmate. At this time, the complainant suspecting foul play opened the door and ran to a house in the vicinity. Later, the trio began to pacify the complainant to come with them and not to fear, to which she refused.
Meanwhile, the Cortalim villagers have expressed shock over the incident.
The villagers alleged that the accused Maria whom they claim is from
Calangute is involved in "blue" movie filming and is politically well connected.
Speaking to Herald, the villagers led by Mathew Simon condemned the Verna police for not tracking down the culprits even after 10 days of the incident. He alleged that Shailesh had a criminal background and did not rule out a nexus between the kidnapping incident and that of murder of Maria Vaz from Novo-Palmar, Cortalim whose body was thrown in a creek at Panjim, two months ago.The Panjim police, he said, had promised that they were close in achieving a breakthrough. However with no solution in sight the police may have buried the case under the carpet, he added. He warned that the villagers would be forced to take law in their hands, if both the incidents were not solved and would shortly hold a meeting to decide future course of action. ------------------------------- HERALD 6/5/05 page 3 ------------------------------
