-------------------------- Phony companies -------------------------- Many fraudulent companies descended over Goa and duped the unwary investors of crores of rupees. Such companies were allowed to operate in Goa without any hindrance by the governments of the day in power. They took the trusting investors for a grand ride and polished clean their hard savings for life.
Even such institutions like the Maharashtra Apex and the Manipal Finance Companies belonging to the renowned Pai group of Manipal, after operating for quite some time in Goa and creating confidence in Goan investors disappeared from the scenario only leaving their Gods behind to hear the woes of the stricken investors!
The urn containing the mortal ashes of the late Dr. Tonse Madav Anand Pai a man of high integrity and sterling character must be turning round and round restlessly at the shameful performance of his successors. The defrauded investors are now crying and cursing them invoking retributive justice upon his successors and the progeny having deprived them of their sustenance.
The fraudulent job was done methodically fully knowing that it would not be feasible for Goans to come to Manipal to chase them. Their standard response to the suffering investors was that matters are before the court and no sooner the court decides they would adhere to the decision. Now they have simply vanished.
Goa has created an Economic Offences Cell in the CID Branch. But it has been practically dormant ever since its inception. Our present Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar who displays good political and administrative skill can surely come to the rescue of the stricken investors at State level and bring these fraudulent persons to book.The cell is headed by an able Inspector of Police Roy Pereira who seems to be doing good job.
Will Parrikar look into the woes of the helpless investors and get the Manipal group round to reasonably compensate the victimised investors and win their perpetual gratitude?
