From: O filho de Albuquerque <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I would have loved it if The Indians had left Goa to itself! However another possibility is that Goa could have been kept independent this is totally viable, look at Bhutan, Singapore, and Hong Kong, Goa is self sufficient! (size does not matter !! at least in this case !) Maybe Goa could have also become a part of the EU, eventually!! No! the summer heat is not affecting me Helga !! If Turkey an Asian country can aspire to join the EU, so Could Lusitanian Goa!!! Regards Hi Dominic: I salute you for stepping forward and providing your views. It is amazing how many Goans argue this issue but will hesitate to take a stand. Finally a brave Goenkar responded to Helga's question. I studied your response. Bhutan has a monarch and Hong Kong is part of China. You want to be independent like Singapore which at one point joined Thailand and Malaysia. Also you also want Goa to be part of EU? (no reasons provided). The thought of an Independent Goa was advocated by a few Goans of the 1940's and 50's. The chief proponent of this status was Dr. Froilano De Mello. It would appear during this period (1940-60's), there was one proposition that the learned leaders and members on both sides of Goa's divide AGREED. It was that Goa as an independent entity was not viable. My reading was Dr. Froilano DeMello was ridiculed by Goans of both sides - Luso-Goans and Nationalist Goans. Churchuree baba, then Dr. De Mello had to go to Brazil to spend the rest of his life where his progeny appears to have settled. Regards, GL
